Balance Me Treats

Sorry for the week of radio silence, just when I was feeling all smug about my NY resolution of posting twice a week. Big things are afoot and I’m on the cusp of a big old career overhaul but more on that anon.

Balance Me’s Moisture Rich Face Cream was one of my favourite finds of 2013 and I hinted when I wrote it up that I had a few more Balance Me treats in my natural beauty cabinet. Over the last few weeks, both my hands and my lips have been given the ‘balance me’ treatment as well.

First up, Balance Me’s Super Moisturising hand cream*. My hands are very wintery at the moment, which means they’re much drier, insanely itchy and prone to cracking at the knuckles and outbreaks of mild eczema between the fingers. I’d show you a picture but…you know…ick. If you’re constantly slapping on hand cream you need something that smells nice, absorbs quickly and hydrates without leaving your hands feeling oily or sticky. I’m pleased to say that Balance Me’s Super Moisturising hand cream does all three really well. If you’re interested (which I’m sure you are!), it has a sophisticated smell made up of the lavender, patchouli and bergamot in the blend.

Products_11In related news, Balance Me recently won a prestigious InStyle Best Beauty Buy Award for 2014, with their Rose Otto Hand Cream picking up a gong in the Best Inexpensive Hand Cream category for the first time. So I’d suggest that’s a good one to try as well if you’re a rose fan.

Next up, Balance Me’s Shine On tinted lip salve*. With apologies to the OED (Oxford English Dictionary), I’d say this is a galm, bass, glom?? It’s a hybrid gloss-balm, basically, so you get a sheer wash of colour with a non-sticky shine as well as hydrating effects. I have the shade ‘Ruby Red’, which sounds like it would be fairly intensely pigmented. However, it’s actually pretty subtle and leaves my lips (which are usually pretty pale in their natural state) with a very slight wash of pinky red that looks healthy rather than coloured.

Products_12Now, it’s worth pointing out that natural glosses like this are nowhere near as long lasting as some of their chemically-laden counterparts. I’m not sure what it is they put in some glosses to make them stay on your mouth through all the eating, drinking, talking and kissing they show in the ads but it really can’t be good. Thanks to Balance Me’s ingredients, if you accidentally eat a bit of this balm you’ll suffer no ill effects but it will wear off quicker and you’ll need to apply more often. Not that that’s really a hardship when it’s this nice. For those who like their lip products fragrance free, this does have a very slight citrussy scent, but it’s gentle and pleasant.
